Java Developer (Cambridge) – December 2019

About Us
Our department consists of Java/Scala developers who work on a server-based web application for document storage, the team also includes testers and product owners who ensure we deliver high-quality products.

A lot of our discussions about strategy and product direction take place in the open and we actively solicit and respect input; we encourage all developers to take part in both technical and functional related discussions to ensure we improve ourselves, our software and our processes.
The company invests in us and provides the opportunity to go to software conferences, for the past few years we have attended Devoxx. We also promote learning, with a budget for paid training courses as well as allocating time every sprint for developers to spend researching topics/technologies of their choice.
Recent development work includes a new REST API with a heavy focus on configuration automation for continuous delivery with docker, as well as high availability and scalability through clustering support with Wildfly. All of this is an effort to streamline our SaaS solution in Azure.

The Role
We are looking for a Java developer with around 3 years of experience to join our close-knit team, developing Enterprise Content Management software and assisting with the whole product lifecycle from planning to release.

Responsiblities

  • Full stack development from frontend to backend
  • Contributing to discussions on software design
  • Researching relevant new technologies and frameworks
  • Maintaining continuous integration builds
  • Proactive refactoring to reduce complexity, increase performance and improve quality
  • Second line support of application issues/bugs

Desirable Attributes

  • An eye for clean, readable code
  • An understanding of functional/business requirements
  • A keenness to learn and discuss new technologies
  • Ability to give and take constructive criticism in a positive manner
  • Strong database experience, primarily MSSQL
  • Knowledge of REST principles
  • Enthusiasm for functional code styles with languages such as Scala
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical documentation
  • Experience of continuous integration/deployment principles / technologies
  • Familiarity with equivalent .NET/C# technologies

Project Manager (Cambridge) – December 2019

EFS develop, supply, implement and support our own Output and Document Management software – AutoFORM – comprising document creation through to archiving and workflow.

Our product range and development environment is Microsoft based, however, integration with other systems and application software is our speciality. We implement our software throughout the UK and internationally so an additional language would be very useful but not essential. Our customers consist of end users, SME through to Multi-Nationals, dealers and software houses. The products we supply play a pivotal role in many businesses and a practical knowledge of how companies operate and could utilise our systems would give a good insight into the potential issues that we address.

We are currently looking for Project Managers to add to the team.
This is an ideal opportunity for an ambitious candidate to move into the Project Management arena. A solid understanding and competency with software configuration is essential and a degree in a computer based subject is expected.

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a technical awareness of networking and the Microsoft environment. Knowledge of SQL Server/Oracle, an understanding of printers and printing in a network environment, document imaging and document process management would be a distinct advantage. Knowledge of the printing or output communication processes from major systems would be useful as would a general knowledge of corporate ERP and accounting systems. An understanding of the internet from a technical perspective would be ideal.

A basic programming understanding is essential and knowledge of Java/JavaScript and regular expressions a distinct advantage.

Key Skills Required:

  • Computer Science BSc or equivalent (2.1 and above)
  • Good literary and numeracy skills
  • Project management training and education advantageous
  • Technical pre-sales background advantageous
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Java, JavaScript, SQL, ORACLE). At least one required
  • Ability to communicate with customers, project stakeholders, third party companies and internal teams (Sales, support, projects and development)
  • Project planning skills including task management, project methodologies, documentation, specification writing
  • Testing and writing test plans
  • Workflow, document and process management advantageous but not essential
  • Support skills for resolving technical and logical problems.
  • Experience running multiple projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project management of multiple process and document management projects.
  • Travel nationally and internationally.
  • Driving and managing a project from start to finish.
  • Liaise with project stakeholders, including customers and internal development and sales teams.
  • Documenting customer requirements, process specifications, project updates, test plans and timescales.
  • Proactively managing ongoing projects, handover at completion to support team and identify risks throughout the project life.
  • Setting realistic expectations with stakeholders.
  • Training customers to use and configure software.

Technical Support Staff (Cambridge) – December 2019
